All such arms can be reshaped.
As the age advances so dose the laxity of the skin. If one is overweight or has a tendency to put on excessive weight and looses it, there is often hanging of the skin flaps especially in the upper arms. Loose skin flaps in the upper arms especially when they are lifted up are cosmetically not very pleasing.
Operative and post operative:
Arms reshaping or brachioplasty is that surgery which attempts in reducing the bulk of the upper arms. If there is overall increase in the girth of the arms and the skin is firm and elastic taking out the extra fat with tumescent liposuction is quite effective. If there are loose skin flaps then a combination surgery of removal of the skin flaps along with liposuction is done. The surgical procedure is done under local or general anesthesia and is painless. If there is a need of excision of the extra skin then there is long incision line that is present along the inner border of the arm. Normal healing time after the surgery is about 10 to 15 days.
Results and complications:
Results are quite encouraging in young people with firm and elastic skin. In elderly with loose skin flaps results are equally good but there is a long scar that runs from the axilla to the elbow region. There might be some asymmetry in the skin or hypertrophy of the scars that usually settles with time.
